Life of Silibiris 37

Silibiris returned to Colombo reluctantly.
He wished he could have stayed in Ambarawa longer to be near Kusumalatha and get to know her more.
...
While she was happy to see Silibiris whenever she managed to sneak away from home.
Silibiris sensed Kusumalatha’s mind was far away in spite of their relative physical closeness. He was at a loss to understand why Kusumalatha pulled away
whenever he tried to embrace her. She looked frightened like a deer in the presence of a preying leopard. His tender inquiries as to what was bothering her only ended up in tears. Whenever he quizzed her where she had been hiding from him well over a year was only met with silence.
He noticed her blouse appeared to be slightly wet around her full breasts at times. Perhaps she was excited to see him after all was his naïve assumption.
Sivapalan had already returned to Colombo a week before Silibiris. They chatted like kids returning to school after school holidays. Sivapalan couldn’t wait to tell Silibiris the good news. Equally, Silibiris wanted tell his friend all about his renewed interest in Kusumalatha.
Sivapalan was getting married to his distant cousin Lakshmi. Their marriage had been decided by the parents long ago. During the Hindu New Year celebrations the respective parents had quietly engineered supervised meetings of the couple. The parents did not need to encourage them. It was love at first sight.
Sivapalan was equally excited about his friend’s love story. He wanted to know every bit of details.
Sivapalan was perceptive enough to realise that Silibiris was overlooking something in Kusumalatha’s behaviour. He filed it away in his memory to discuss at a later date.
